Bill Bell · 3 months agoInteractions between students and faculty members are good for both. Unfortunately in my own limited observations they tend to be fairly limited. At the same time the typical faculty member's delivery of information (for want of a better word) tends to be pretty dreadful. Although I would agree that it is a mistake to eliminate what little interaction there is between students and faculty members, why not use quality products of the kind that could be made by entities such as Straighterline to free up time that faculty members now devote to delivering lectures for interaction?

digitaldigs · 3 months agoBill. I agree with you that we can use media networks to free up FTF class time for activities that are best accomplished in meat space. Straighterline isn't that kind of product, or at least it wasn't when I wrote this article. As I think you are suggesting here, making these kinds of changes might result in new pedagogic challenges for faculty. I hope we rise to the occasion.
